Sarfait

Operation "Simba"

UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Sarfait was the location of Operation "Simba" in April 1972 which was one of the three major turning points in the war against the insurgents in Dhofar.

The concept was simply to block the adoo supply routes close to the border with Yemen in order to prevent supplies reaching other areas. A battalion group from Akoot would occupy the Sarfait position above the escarpment. The adoo supply line - the Ho Chi Minh Trail passed below the escarpment, the Capstan feature and the sea. Weapons and ammunition could be transported from the border to the central sector in 10 days and messages could be taken in three days.
